What has been your most interesting paranormal experience (not case)?
I have had a lot of ghostly experiences over the years including a ghost sighting at Harperley Prisoner of War camp.
I have been followed along a corridor by phantom footsteps, heard and recorded disembodied voices and breaths, been touched,
pushed, and was once physically attacked by a spirit in room 28 of The Schooner Hotel. Its hard to narrow it down to the
most interesting as they are all equally fascinating.
Are you interested in any other paranormal phenomenon apart from ghosts?
I used to study ufology in my younger days, and have always been interested in telepathy, ESP, and psychic powers.
What does your family think about your interest in the unknown?
They are behind me all the way, but, in a nutshell, think I am insane!
There are a lot of amateurs out there who get paranormal research a bad name. Where do you think they go wrong?
They are simply in it for the wrong reasons. A true researcher will learn, study, and research to the best of their ability to try and
make a difference to psychical research. They will not deliberately falsify or fake phenomena to make headlines, and neither will they
jump to rash conclusions about alleged phenomena experienced on investigations. A lot of people are driven on by money,
fame, and are constantly seeking media attention and its just a shame they have jumped on the ghost-hunting bandwagon to get there.
How many investigations have you carried out up to date?
Over one hundred, one being the most well authenticated, frightening, and best documented case of poltergeist infestation since Enfield
in 1977-78.
Why are you fascinated by the life of Harry Price? What makes him so special?
His handling and documentation of the haunting of Borley Rectory. That, along with his dedication and contribution to psychical
research. He wanted to have it accepted and studied by science. He achieved what no one else has ever done, and no one ever
will and in my eyes. He is the father of modern ghost hunting.
Do you think we'll ever discover exactly what apparitions are, or do you think their nature will always be something
of a mystery?
I think we are getting closer to finding out what lies behind the nature of ghosts. I don’t think we will discover the answers in my
lifetime but if people continue to research, and keep asking the right questions, we will indeed get a breakthrough. First, though, I think
people must learn to accept that there is indeed more to this world that what we know. Ghosts are still frowned upon by many and
people are still ridiculed by the ignorant.
What is the key to carrying out a successful investigation?
Knowing what you are doing, respecting the ghosts and the properties you are investigating, and having patience.
In the ghost-hunting fraternity, what sort of person annoys you most?
Liars, cheats, and those who fabricate phenomena - lazy Investigators and media whores.
What is your favourite book on the paranormal, and why?
The Most Haunted House in England by Harry Price. It was published in 1940, and details what is probably the worlds most
authenticated and well-attested case of ghosts and hauntings in the annals of psychical research.
What plans do you have for the future in terms of books, paranormal research, and so on?
My aim is to become a respected researcher and writer in this particular field. I’ve always wanted to write books on the subject.
My first book Ghost Hunter - True Life Encounters from the North East and my second book In Search of Ghosts - Real hauntings
from around Britain are both available now. END
